A group of amateur astronomers have made an astonishing and awe inspiring discovery as for the first time ever, a planet which closely resembles the planet “Tattooine” from the popular “Star Wars” series of films has been discovered. The real-life Star Wars plus two planet, which has been dubbed “PH1”, was found by the Yale University Planet Hunters project group who, along with professional scientists, work alongside NASA to find evidence of new planets. In this instance, they were definitely successful. According to a report from the BBC, “PH1” is undeniably the first of its kind.

PH1 is completely unique  in the sense that it has four suns. No other planet in any solar system has four suns. While there have been instances of planets being discovered with two suns, there was a time when only time in which a planet which had two suns has even been thought of, it was completely fictional. The legendary “Star Wars” series of films featured a planet called “Tattooine” which has two suns. PH1 has been called by various media sources as “Star Wars planet + 2” and “Tattooine times two” which is of course a reference to the planet’s four suns rather than two.

PH1 is a giant gas planet which, according to a report from Fox News, is slightly larger than the planet Neptune. The planet spends 138 days orbiting its two parent stars, and the stars themselves circle each other every 20 days making this a truly awe inspiring five star solar system; four of which being suns, the last of the five being the giant planet itself. Of course, the planet is presumed completely uninhabitable for human life, or life of any form, due to the extreme heat from the four suns beaming down on it. Due to the distance of the planet, it is also presumed unreachable by current technology.

It has definitely been a flawless year for astronomy in 2012, as well as science in general. Not only was science able to find the “God particle”, but NASA’s Mars rover, “Curiosity” has also beamed back some truly awe inspiring pictures back to earth of the actual surface of “The Red Planet” including signs that water and snow may have once fallen on the now barren wastes of the universes most fictionalized planet.

It remains to be seen if any more information will be revealed on PH1 in the coming months, but it is certainly a fascinating discovery, and it also remains to be seen if any other discoveries can be made from the data which NASA presented to the “couch astronomers” of the Planet Hunter project which were able to find PH1 in the first place.
