A lot of tweens are fascinated by science.  They may love a gift that is related to this subject.  You can choose from the following items.

Microscope

A tween might like a microscope to explore the microscopic world.  There are many different devices, and some come in kits with slides that are already prepared.  You can purchase First Lab Duo-Scope Microscope, and Kosmos Biology Tk2 Scope, or Lab Indoor/Outdoor Microscope.

Telescope

A tween may enjoy exploring the stars.  Many people think that they have to pay thousands of dollars for a telescope, but this is not true.  There are many that are reasonably priced, which would be very suitable for a tween.  You can try the 21062 AstroMaster 70 EQ Refractor Telescope.

Science-related experience

A tween may like to go somewhere to learn about science or discovery.  You can send him or her to Space Camp where they can learn about what it is like to be a real astronaut.  You can also take him or her to a science museum such as the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Science and Discovery.  You will find many such museums around the country.  If he or she likes animals then you can take him or her somewhere where they can learn about different animal life like a zoo.

Book

There are many books that are related to science and discovery.  You could get him or her Scientists by Sean Connolly, which is very highly rated.  You could get Essentials, Grades 5-6 by Carson-Dellosa Publishing.  There are also magazines that are geared towards those who like science. Some are specifically for kids such as tweens, while others are for adults such as Popular Science.  If your tween is very mature, however, then he or she may like one that is geared for more mature audiences.

Science DVD

A tween might like to watch a DVD that is related to science.  They make many from the IMAX shows.  Topics include astronomy and the rainforest.

A science and discovery gift can be great fun for a tween that likes science.  It can be educational as well.  An alternative ideas is to put together a gift basket of different items such as a book on science, A DVD, a bookmark showing the stars, and all different types of items.  Otherwise consider the above gifts when making your selection.
