I once heard a cute little joke about change. "How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?" "None, the light bulb has to be willing to change itself." In theory, a light bulb can not change itself but in actuality, it makes perfect sense.
If a person wants to change, they can, but they key is that they must want to. Change is possible in many aspects. It is up to the individual to decide what they want to change and how they want to do it. Change means trying. A person must be willing to put forth an effort. It isn't enough to say you want to change, you must set forth a plan of action.
When a person sets a resolution or a goal, they are deciding what things they want to change. If change were impossible, then people would not set goals. Change is something we all strive for. It is the time to fix what we may think is broken.
Physical change is perhaps the easiest type of change. A person can easily alter their appearance with makeup, a haircut, or even a new wardrobe. This type of change just requires basic upkeep but isn't that difficult to achieve.
Mental change is a bigger type of change, depending on which aspect you are going for. Medication and education could both fall under this category although they aren't directly related. The decision to make mental changes can be a big one but this is also not an impossible feat.
Emotional change is the most difficult to handle. Thoughts and emotions aren't always easy to deal with. Sometimes, though, things can be as easy as just changing the way you think. Rather than seeing something, as half full, we must view it as half empty. This isn't as easy as just saying it. We must also believe it.
Of course, there are some changes that don't take as much effort. Every day, people grow apart. They may become more distant or different in general. These changes aren't forced. Another type of change is hormonal. Come what may, these changes happen whether you want them to or not.
Change does not always come overnight. Most change takes time. It can be a slow process but worth it in the end. It is possible to change but no matter what you must stick to it. Change isn't just a thought or a hope. It is a commitment.
Change is what you make of it. We can't change others but we can change how we allow them to treat us. Change is about having a voice and letting it be known. It is about standing up for what you believe in and taking steps to make things happen. Change means embracing the present and working towards the future.
